A LOOK AT THE LEGAL CASES OF INCARCERATED AND DETAINED TRANSGENDER WOMEN OF COLOR
When considering freedom and movement, we should not overlook the abuses that take place against transgender women of color within prisons and detention centers across the United States. Every transgender women of color serving time has a unique experience, of course, but to highlight some of the common abuses taking place against the constitutional rights of transgender women of color, We've included a map which follows legal cases filed on behalf of trans-women across the country. As you will find, both sexual and other forms of physical violence are committed against transgender women at disproportionate rates by other inmates and correctional officers alike. They experience insufficient therapy for gender dysphoria through the denial of medication, mental health services, reassignment surgery, etc. The needs of many transgender women of color across the United States go neglected- such as requests for relocation within prisons for their safety.
